Despite the country’s continued economic crisis and public concerns about corruption, a nationwide survey of Mongolian voters released three months after the June 2016 elections shows that Mongolians have invested a great deal of faith in the new government and in their democratic system. US State Department issues annual global Human Rights Report for 2016; full text of Mongolia Country Report

The US State Department released its annual report to Congress on the state of human rights across the globe on March 3. The department has been mandated by Congress to annually report on all countries receiving assistance since 1961 and on all United Nations member states since 1974. Mongolian Ambassador to Canada R. Altangerel honored by President Elbegdorj with highest diplomatic award

As part of the annual Tsagaan Sar honors list, President Ts. Elbegdorj bestowed the nation's highest diplomatic award on His Excellency Radnaabazar Altangerel, who has served as Mongolia's ambassador to Canada since May 2014. Ambassador Altangerel received the permanent life-time title of "Ambassador Extraordinary and Envoy Plenipotentiary of Mongolia." First class of 30 Mongolian “Leaders Advancing Democracy” (LEAD) Fellows appointed, will visit USA in January

The first class of 30 young Mongolian fellows has been competitively selected for the USAID-funded “Leaders Advancing Democracy” program (LEAD). The fellows had their first meeting at a Democratic Foundations Workshop, November 28-December 2, in Ulaanbaatar. They will visit the US in January for a three-week series of meetings, discussions and other events. In Washington, DC, and at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, they will take part in study sessions, site visits, discussions with advocates and policy makers, and networking events, during which they will explore issues of poverty alleviation, environmental protection, and transparency and anti-corruption. NAMBC Chairman Frank Herbert and a delegation of the NAMBC board of directors held meetings over a period of four days with senior Mongolian Government leaders in late October and came away cautiously optimistic about Mongolia’s economic recovery and the government’s commitment to welcome back foreign direct investment.
