Mongolia section in latest US State Department Annual Human Rights Report

The US Department of State (DoS) released the 2015 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices in Washington DC, on April 13, 2016, which documents the status of human rights conditions in 199 countries and territories around the world. Issued annually for 40 years, these reports are mandated by Act of Congress in the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Trade Act of 1974. The section on Mongolia comprises 10,885 words. The Canadian Embassy to Mongolia has made it a priority to promote the rights of girls in Mongolia, speaking out against violence and supporting projects related to the annual International Day of the Girl Child (October 11) through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. A new nationwide poll, based on 5000 face-to-face interviews, has been released by the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Center for Insights in Survey Research. The new survey reveals a decline in the optimism reflected in IRI’s August 2016 post-election poll, and reinforces public concerns over the economy and corruption. Mongolia’s first and only free trade agreement (FTA) is with Japan. The “Japan–Mongolia Economic Partnership Agreement” (EPA) inevitably has had various adverse impacts on exports to Mongolia from the US and Canada, because of preferential tariffs accorded to Japanese competitors of North American companies. Mongolian Ambassador to Canada R. Altangerel honored by President Elbegdorj with highest diplomatic award

As part of the annual Tsagaan Sar honors list, President Ts. Elbegdorj bestowed the nation's highest diplomatic award on His Excellency Radnaabazar Altangerel, who has served as Mongolia's ambassador to Canada since May 2014. Ambassador Altangerel received the permanent life-time title of "Ambassador Extraordinary and Envoy Plenipotentiary of Mongolia." The US State Department released its annual report to Congress on the state of human rights across the globe on March 3. The department has been mandated by Congress to annually report on all countries receiving assistance since 1961 and on all United Nations member states since 1974.
